Ethical Existential and/or Spiritual Care for Persons of All Faiths and Ideologies: What All Disciplines Can Do

Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:30am to Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 1:00pm Webinar/Teleconference
When we provide competent spiritual care, outcomes are improved for patients, families, professionals, and agencies. Research indicates patients want to talk with their clinicians about spiritual concerns, but providers’ discomfort with the topic, lack of training, and a fear of breaching boundaries serve as significant barriers to these conversations.

Description

This presentation will discuss the literature behind why ethical existential and/or spiritual care is important, methods of screening for and responding to spiritual distress, resources to help make it all easier, and clear boundaries to protect everyone involved in the process.

At the conclusion of this activity learners will be able to:

  1. Recognize the importance of including spiritual care in practice
  2. Develop comfortable methods of screening for spiritual distress
  3. Identify appropriate responses and referrals to spiritual distress
